Longtime Patriots Fan Dies After Being Punched by a Dolphins Fan and Hitting Head on Ground

A father of two from the state of New Hampshire has passed away after an incident took place during the New England Patriots game on Sunday, where they played the Miami Dolphins. The Patriots fan was punched in the face by a Dolphins fan and then fell unconscious.

Dale Mooney, age 53, was treated by EMTs at the scene before he was quickly escorted to the hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead right before midnight.

A spectator who claims they witnessed the altercation between Mooney and the Dolphins fan describes the event as follows:

The fan told MassLive that "The Dolphins fan walks over and clearly punches him in the face. (He) gets knocked out and you can tell right away he's not okay."

The witness went on to further state that Mooney had gotten himself into a physical altercation with different fans towards the end of the 4th Quarter.

The witness says that Mooney had never regained consciousness after he was punched, and that the EMTs performed CPR on him, but proved unsuccessful before being taken to the hospital.

The witness told WCVB that he "basically grabbed another fan, they started tussling around for a few minutes. At one point, another fan walked over. He punched him (Mooney)... and the man just went out. It was pretty hard to watch."

Mooney was a 30-year season-ticket holder of the Patriots and was attending the game vs. the Dolphins with three friends. Mooney's wife, Lisa, has said that she's feeling "numb" and wants answers about what went down.

"I want to know what happened. What caused this? I just don't understand why people have to go to that extreme. Why can't it just be fun? That's all it's supposed to be -- a fun family event." Lisa told WCVB.

Lisa went on to say, "It takes a lot to get him mad. He has the patience of a saint. I don't know what happened." She added that her husband had no medical condition that she was aware of.
